Design inset photoWesite design isn’t just about what a site looks like (in fact from the point of view of a Search Engine, it’s nothing atall about what it looks like). Design is more about how easy and rewarding the visitor finds the experience. As with all other areas of human existence, the more rewarding you find an experience, the more likely you are to repeat it. A website cannot survive on “One Visit Willi’s“. So..

  • Is the information useful and up-to-date?
  • Is the way the information is structured clear and intuitive?
  • Do the links lead to the promised information or end up down annoying blind alleys?
  • Can the site be read on hand held devices as well as on a computer screen?
  • Can the site be accessed by people with disabilities?
  • Will web pages print onto paper without using loads of your expensive coloured ink?

All these qualities need to be designed into a site. They don’t happen automatically, so design is as much about how it works as how it looks.

It does, however, remains true that the purely visual impact of a site has the immediate power to attract or repel visitors within seconds of a page loading, so every effort has to be made to capture attention at a very early stage. ‘You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression’ applies as much to websites as human relationships. However this doesn’t mean you need an exploding or rotating logo on your home page, it just means your site needs to look as though some thought and care went into the choice of colours fonts, design and scale.

As you can see from my portfolio and the screenshots below, Webs Wonder sites are not “cookie cutter” produced, but display a wide variety of colours, designs and concepts to bring individuality to any business.
