I’ve long admired Arthur “Two Sheds” Jackson. Musician, composer and multiple shed owner. After several decades of aspiration I’ve finally achieved my shed owing goal thanks to the good people at Edistone Log Stores.
Logs needs plenty of air in order to dry and this slatted store which holds 4.5 cubic metres does the job beautifully. Built with 1 inch sawn timber grown and dried in Wales, it is manufactured in Llanfyllin, Powys and delivered in a few easily assembled sections with full instructions and even an accompanying photo of it in their workshop fully assembled. Thanks to Keith Blacker of Edistone for an excellent product and service.
Why is dry firewood important?
This graph shows how significant moisture content is in determining the Calorific Value of wood. A fresh green log of about average moisture content has only around half the energy content of an equivalent, well seasoned log. While the type of tree the log comes from can have some impact on the calorific value, it is usually extremely small. Most of the variation in calorific value between species is due to natural differences between moisture content in fresh cut logs (e.g. Ash has a particularly low moisture content when green).
