Soroptimist International Wales South Region

Welcome from Anne Dunne - Regional President

Creoso! Welcome to Wales South

Anne Dunne

If you have come to this page I hope it is because you want to know more about Soroptimist International and the Region of Wales South in particular. This website gives you information about where to find a club near you, our objectives, our activities plus a direct link to the website of the Federation of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI).

During the three years that I have been privileged to represent Wales South Region on the UK Programme Action Committee I have been delighted to see the wide range of projects undertaken by our clubs - covering not only local issues but also further afield in many countries overseas.

I am particularly proud that our members continue to work on a project across the Region to raise funds to strive for the eradication of Lassa Fever in 75 villages in Sierra Leone. They are being partnered in this by World Health Organisation and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Throughout our work in Wales South we are extending our boundaries of knowledge regarding the plight of women fighting for human rights worldwide. The more we know about the work of Soroptimist clubs in a truly 'international' sense, the better we can understand the powerful strength of our organisation in being a Global Voice for Women.

During the coming year I want to focus on our International Goodwill and Understanding. Many of our Wales South clubs have Friendship Links which represent a powerful network in spanning our four Federations. With the ever-increasing use of email connections we now have easy access to our Soroptimist friends around the world - let us use this technology for the exchange of ideas and the development of personal friendships.

I would like to express my thanks to the members of Wales South for the privilege of being their Regional President for the coming year and particularly to Past President Ann Hodgson whose help and advice have been invaluable.

Yours in Friendship

Anne Dunne
