Make a donation to 'Limbs for Life' when you see the Soroptimist Chat Line Quilt in Cardiff
Members of the official Soroptimist Chat Line decided last year to develop their own project to raise money for 'Limbs for Life'. They wanted to demonstrate the usefulness of the Chat Line for communications and fellowship and also to show that a joint project was possible across four Federations - even though members live thousands of miles apart.
In July 1999 at the Chat Line Breakfast in Helsinki Joy Donelson from SI Anchorage in Alaska was seen distributing brown envelopes containing two white cotton squares with her return address.
From that simple beginning Joy has co-ordinated the making up of 64 quilt squares into a magnificent queen-size bedcover which will be on display at the SIGBI Federation Conference in Cardiff. Each square carries a Chat Line member's name, her club, region and Federation. The quilt represents an international needlework achievement carried out in a spirit of friendship.
Soroptimist Chat Line Quilt
We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of designer Laurel Burch who has allowed us to use her design in the quilt's border as her contribution towards landmine removal worldwide.
The quilt will travel around the Federations during the next three years to arrive in Sydney 2003 for the International Convention. Its thousands-of-miles journey will be documented, photographed and eventually produced as a booklet by a Chat Line journalist for further fundraising for Limbs for Life.
The quilt will be on display at the SIGBI Federation Conference in Cardiff to attract more donations for the Limbs for Life project.
