Lunch with SI Cardigan
Throughout her past year in office President Iris has concentrated on the significance of a truly international Soroptimist family and has urged members to spend time looking further than the safe haven of their own clubs and to give thought to their Soroptimist sisters across the world. In Cardigan she paid tribute to the small group of women who were the founders of our organisation
"we are greatly indebted to those Soroptimists of the past and we are justly proud of them. Let us hope they will be proud of us as we move forward into the next century"
President Lila Saywood SI Cardigan
Highlighting SI Cardigan's activities this year President Iris mentioned the club's successful (now running for its third year) Charity Car Boot Sale where only charities are invited to raise money for their own organisations. A group of young volunteers working under the United Nations International Youth Service (UNIYS) scheme in nearby Tresaith were entertained by SI Cardigan for a traditional evening of fish and chips and a visit to a local pub. Club president Lila added "this was so much enjoyed and we established links with seven different nationalities. It seems that we will be on the UNIYS list as an annual event for the volunteers!".
SI Cardigan president Lila Saywood had chosen as guest speaker Jane Davidson, Head of Social Affairs for the Welsh Local Government Association. Jane's enthusiastic and dynamic speech highlighted the potential opportunities for women to make strong representation within the Welsh Assembly....WOMEN working for women IN Wales. With a few more enthusiasts like Jane in the Assembly it seems that progress is assured.
