BAA’s attempt in the High Court to prevent a wide range of environmental and other groups from attending peaceful protests at Heathrow Airport has backfired as comprehensively as a Jumbo jet running on diesel.

As well as providing huge publicity for the Plane Stupid campaign, BAA have only managed to get a injunction against 3 named organisers of Plane Stupid. Radio reports give the impression that Plane Stupid supporters (or people of like-mind, or is it followers?) are also banned from attending their Camp for Climate Action at Heathrow airport, August 14^th-21^st 2007.

BAA’s representative said today that they were pleased becasue their court action had been successful. Oh really? You mean like that shopping expedition I went on to Tescos, when I came back with only 6 of the 25 items on my wife’s list? Try telling her that was successful.

So what’s the plan now for BA and the police who have the usual role as scapegoat, trying to enforce a daft injunction and keep these people out of the exclusion zone (see map). Will the police let everyone through the Heathrow cordon except those three named organisers of Plane Stupid? Or will it be a case of:

“Son, are you a member, supporter, or do you agree with the general aims and underlying environmental reasoning behind the group Plane Stupid?”

“Yes! constable. I did it. It’s a fair cop…”

Or perhaps the police have Plane Stupid’s mailing list…

“What’s your email address son?…..Well I’ve got a rover@dogsbollocks.com, but not a .co.uk here, so I guess you can go to Heathrow….”

I sent a letter of support to Joss Garman and the others months ago and made the “no fly” pledge. Will I be on the police’s list of supporters?

Support Plane Stupid today, but don’t join the organisation is my advice. Send them money, advertise their campaign, forward details of their aims and objectives to all your friends, but don’t you dare admit to supporting them!
